Summary: We are currently hiring fun, bright, loving teachers to educate and care for children in our UPK Pre-K Room for the 2025/26 school year. You will have the opportunity to impact the lives of the children in their care. Teachers are responsible for ensuring a clean, friendly, welcoming environment; ensuring the implementation of proprietary curriculum; ensuring the health and safety of the children in their care as well as effective communication with the children’s parents. We follow all rules and regulations as written by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, found at www.ocfs.ny.gov.

Teaching & Curriculum

  • Provide for a curriculum appropriate to the ages of the children and their developmental level and interests, including children with developmental delays or disabilities, which promote the children’s cognitive, educational, social, cultural, physical, emotional, language, and recreationa development.
  • Consistently treat children, parents, staff, and members fairly, with dignity, respect, and compassion, while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Establish, implement, and post a daily schedule of program activities that offers reasonable regularity in routines, including snack and meal periods, nap and rest periods, indoor activities, daily outdoor playtime and a variety of large muscle activities throughout the day. There must be  physical activity, appropriate to the ages of the children in care, every day. All schedules must  include a routine of good personal hygiene practices.
  • Know and understand the Mandated Reporter Policy.
  • Provide competent and direct supervision of children at all times for the health and safety of all of the children, by keeping them in sight and sound at all times. This includes supervising children from other classrooms when in common spaces or combined.
  • Provide for a program of self-initiated, group-initiated, and teacher-initiated activities which are intellectually stimulating and foster self-reliance and social responsibility.
  • Provide opportunities for learning and self-expression in small and large groups. Maintain a portfolio on each child, including copies of assessment tools, samples of artwork, projects, writing, and pictures.
  • Establish and maintain positive, professional, and effective communication and supportive ties with children, staff, parents, and third party consultants to meet the needs of children and thei families, thereby establishing a partnership between school and home.
  • Maintain positive discipline methods in class at all times, promoting self-esteem in children in such a way as to help children develop self-control and assume responsibility for their actions through clear and consistent rules and limits appropriate to the age and development of the child.
  • Corporal punishment is prohibited.
  • 1-5 years of childcare experience – UPK experience is a plus

Administrative and Classroom Responsibilities

  • Maintain and individualize notes sent home to parents.
  • Conduct daily health checks of all children entering the room in which you start your day.
  • Maintain daily movement sheets and the attendance sheets and contact lists of all of the children as you travel throughout the building and grounds.
  • Maintain student to teacher ratios at all times.
  • Monitor growth and development of each child and communicate progress/concerns to the
  • Director and parents, by maintaining developmental milestone charts and other forms of evaluation tools on each child.
  • Maintain a clean and organized classroom which is colorful and print rich, with shelves, toys, and equipment labeled and in good repair.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and trainings, and scheduled evening events for parents including parent teacher conferences, meet the teacher night, and graduation.
  • Maintain current certifications in CPR/AED and First Aid.
  • Create and work towards mutually agreed upon goals of an annual professional growth plan set with the supervisor, including meeting the required hours of OCFS approved training classes.
  • Attend all required training classes to meet the required hours as stated by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services

Physical Demands and Work Requirements:

  • Employees must have the ambulatory ability to stand, walk, sit, and reach for objects.
  • Employees must be able to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
  • Satisfy the mandatory background checks as required by state and company regulations.
  • Be of sufficient physical, mental and emotional health to perform job duties satisfactorily
  • Possess skills, attributes and characteristics conducive to and suitable for dealing with children
  • Must speak English well enough to communicate with children, staff, management, and parents
  • Must be a team player and have a positive attitude
  • Must be able to read and write English well enough to prepare, complete, and maintain administrative forms and records as required by current governmental regulations, company policies, and procedures.
  • Employees must have the ability to focus and work efficiently in an environment with low to moderate noise level.
  • Must have thorough understanding of OCFS regulations.

  • NYS Certified Teacher
  • CPR Certification (Preferred)
  • Child Development Associate Certification (Preferred)
