We operate Before and After Care programs in Bellmore, Baldwin, Oceanside, Island Park and Long Beach Districts. Before and After School Program counselors are responsible for helping children with homework, leading developmentally appropriate activities and ensuring compliance with health and safety protocols. This part-time position reports to the Before/After School Program Site Supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and lead developmentally appropriate activities such as gym and outdoor games, arts and crafts, and other topics as assigned
- Create and maintain an engaging, respectful, and welcoming environment that is clean and organized
- Manage group and individual behavior. Log and report behavior if necessary.
- Prioritize safety at all times and ensure compliance with JCC policies and guidelines surrounding COVID-19 prevention
- Consistently treat children, parents, staff fairly, with dignity, respect, and compassion, while maintaining confidentiality.
- Provide competent and direct supervision of children at all times for the health and safety of all of the children, by keeping them in sight and sound at all times.
- Maintain daily records of children’s attendance and absences and also keep a record of snack count
- Report and significant incident/occurrence to Program Supervisor immediately
- Adhere to NYS mandated reporter policies regarding child abuse and neglect; including compliance to all state rules and reporting requirements
- Maintain positive discipline methods at all times appropriate to the age and development of the child. Corporal punishment is prohibited.
- Attend all staff training sessions, meetings and programs
- Submit personal time card and payroll information via the payroll app in accordance with payroll schedule
Expected Hours of Work: This is a part time position. Typical work days and times are Monday through Friday 7-9 am (Before School Program) 3-6 pm (After School Program) but exact times for this position may vary.
