Swim Instructor contributes to the organization’s success by providing a safe, fun, welcoming environment for the members and aquatic participants. The swim instructor is responsible for instructing a class/lesson according to the JCC and American Red Cross standards.
Essential Functions:
- Ensure the safety of the instructional learn-to-swim program.
- Instruct class / lesson according to the JCC and American Red Cross standards.
- Maintain accurate attendance records using provided rosters.
- Complete submit all participant evaluations as required by Aquatics Director / ARC
- Start and end class / lesson on time.
- Responsible for the care and proper storage of equipment used during instruction.
- Model and promote the organization’s mission, values, and guiding principles through appropriate appearance, words, and actions; and comply with the organization’s policies and procedures.
- Engage in opportunities that positively impact the member experience.
- Recognize emergencies and respond effectively, completing necessary incident / accident reports.
- Employees must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Employees must be able to clearly and concisely communicate orally and in writing
- Employees must have the ability to recognize and respond quickly, effectively, and with sound judgment in emergencies
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Employee must have the ability, strength, and endurance to perform daily physical duties, including, but not limited to the following, on a continuous and regular basis:
- Employees must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Employees must be able to clearly and concisely communicate orally and in writing
- Employees must have the ability to recognize and respond quickly, effectively, and with sound judgment in emergencies
- Employee must have the ability, strength, and endurance to perform daily physical duties, including, but not limited to the following, on a continuous and regular basis:
- Lifting of 50 pounds or greater;
- Moving objects or persons (of indeterminate weight);
- Bending;
- Squatting;
- Sitting;
- Walking;
- And reaching for objects
- Employees must have the ability to work outdoors and in potentially extreme temperatures, as necessary
- Employee must have the ability to focus and work efficiently in an environment with high noise levels and multiple interruptions

Required Education and Experience
- Nassau County Lifeguard 1A, 1B, or grade III
- ARC First Aid / CPR / AED
- WSI preferred
PART TIME ONLY – schedule flexible
$20 – $25 an hour
