Early Childhood Teacher Assistant

We are currently hiring fun, bright, loving teacher assistants to provide a stimulating, safe, and educational environment for children to develop cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills. Teacher Assistants are responsible for ensuring a clean, friendly, welcoming environment; ensuring the implementation of proprietary curriculum; ensuring the health and safety of the children in their care as well as effective communication with the children’s parents. We follow all rules and regulations as written by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, found at www.ocfs.ny.gov.

Teaching & Curriculum: To assist the Lead Teacher with the following:

  • Assist in providing appropriate curriculum to the ages of the children and their developmental levels and interests.

  • Assistant teachers of infants must also include supervised periods of time during which the awake infant is placed on his stomach, back, or side allowing them to move freely and interact socially, thus developing motor skills and social skills. Administrative and Classroom Responsibilities; to assist the Lead Teacher with the following:

  • Keep accurate attendance records of yourself in the ECE Office.
  • Conduct daily health checks of all children entering the room in which you start your day.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and training, and scheduled evening events for parents including parent teacher conferences, meet the teacher night, and graduation.
  • Maintain current certifications in CPR/AED and First Aid.
  • Maintain and individualize Daily Forms sent home to parents.

Physical Demands and Work Requirements:

UPK Teacher

Summary: We are currently hiring fun, bright, loving teachers to educate and care for children in our UPK Pre-K Room for the 2022/2023 school year. Direct Support Professionals

Summary: We are seeking experienced part-time direct support professionals to work with young adults with disabilities in a community class setting.

Essential Functions:

  • Support students with class assignments
  • Assist class instructor with assigned tasks
  • Help with transitions and skills of daily living

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: 5-10 hours per week.

Required Education and Experience: At least 2 years of experience working with young adults with disabilities in a community or school setting.

Sunday Supervisor for Respite/Recreation Program for Individuals with Disabilities

Summary: The Sunday Supervisor will oversee a recreation program for teens and young adults with disabilities. The program includes activities such as art, games and sports; all designed to promote social skills and conversation among participants.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain an engaging, respectful, and welcoming environment that issanitized, clean and organized
  • Plan and lead appropriate activities including discussions, games, and arts & crafts to meet participant goals
  • Manage attendees behavior and participation in activities
  • Supervise counselor staff
  • Communicate with parents, caregivers, and community habilitation staff

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise counselor staff, including college and high school students.

Personal Trainer

Summary: The Barry and Florence Friedberg JCC is looking for experienced Personal Trainers. The Personal Trainers perform one-on-one training with clients as well as gym orientations with new members. They are at times responsible for enforcing the rules of the fitness center. They are asked to make sure equipment is put in its proper place after it is no longer being used.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Be able to design programs that fit the needs and desires of their personal training clients
  • Be able to make and keep training appointments with clients
  • Must be able to perform life saving techniques such as CPR and AED along with basic first aid
  • Ensure the training area is safe for the members
  • Complete attendance records, progress reports and evaluations for each client
  • Attend meetings and in-service training as assigned

  • Scheduling is flexible and varies 7 days a week to match the needs of the members

Required Education and Experience:

Swim Instructor

Summary: Swim Instructor contributes to the organizations success by providing a safe, fun, welcoming environment for the members and aquatic participants. The swim instructor is responsible for instructing a class/lesson according to the JCC and American Red Cross standards.

Essential Functions: 

  • Ensure the safety of the instructional learn-to-swim program.
  • Instruct class / lesson according to the JCC and American Red Cross standards.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records using provided rosters.
  • Complete submit all participant evaluations as required by Aquatics Director / ARC
  • Start and end class / lesson on time.
  • Responsible for the care and proper storage of equipment used during instruction.

Before/After School Program Counselor

We operate Before and After Care programs in Bellmore, Baldwin, Oceanside, Island Park and Long Beach Districts. Before and After School Program counselors are responsible for helping children with homework, leading developmentally appropriate activities and ensuring compliance with health and safety protocols. This part-time position reports to the Before/After School Program Site Supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and lead developmentally appropriate activities such as gym and outdoor games, arts and crafts, and other topics as assigned
  • Create and maintain an engaging, respectful, and welcoming environment that is clean and organized
  • Manage group and individual behavior. Log and report behavior if necessary.
  • Prioritize safety at all times and ensure compliance with JCC policies and guidelines surrounding COVID-19 prevention
  • Consistently treat children, parents, staff fairly, with dignity, respect, and compassion, while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Provide competent and direct supervision of children at all times for the health and safety of all of the children, by keeping them in sight and sound at all times.
  • Maintain daily records of children’s attendance and absences and also keep a record of snack count
  • Report and significant incident/occurrence to Program Supervisor immediately
  • Adhere to NYS mandated reporter policies regarding child abuse and neglect; including compliance to all state rules and reporting requirements

Before/After School Program Site Supervisor

We are looking for qualified and enthusiastic people to join our amazing team! The Friedberg JCC operates Before and After Care programs in operate in Bellmore, Baldwin, Oceanside, Island Park and Long Beach Districts. Before and After School Program Supervisors are responsible for managing all aspects of programming, ensuring compliance with Office of Children and Family Services regulations including all health and safety protocols and communicating with parents and care givers. This part-time position reports to the Youth Services Director.

  • Establish, implement, and post a schedule of program activities that offers activities including snack periods, indoor activities, outdoor recreational activities, arts & crafts, and homework.

  • Lead all Before and After School counselors in establishing and maintaining a peaceful and collaborative atmosphere that is consistent with JCC values
  • Prioritize safety at all times and ensure compliance with JCC policies and guidelines surrounding COVID-19 prevention
  • Provide a program curriculum appropriate to the ages of the children and their developmental levels and interests, including children with developmental delays or disabilities.
  • Establish and maintain positive, professional, and effective communication and supportive ties with children, staff, parents, and third party consultants to meet the needs of children and their families, thereby establishing a partnership between school and home.
  • Adhere to NYS mandated reporter policies regarding child abuse and neglect; including compliance to all state rules and reporting requirements
  • Ensure all program staff use positive discipline methods at all times appropriate to the age and development of the child. Corporal punishment is prohibited.

Administrative/ Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate daily and monthly attendance records for each child
  • Coordinate all staffing schedules including bus monitors and extended care staff for your site
  • Keep accurate attendance records of yourself and your staff via the online payroll app.
  • Conduct daily health and temperature checks of all children and staff entering the program
  • Maintain student to teacher ratios at all times
  • Maintain a nut-free environment
  • Plan and order breakfast and snack food in accordance with CACFP guidelines
  • Assist in the development, evaluation, and revision of the program.
  • Attend all required training classes to meet the required hours as stated by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services; Maintain certifications in CPR/MAT/AED and First Aid
  • Maintain correspondence with JCC offices with regard to student schedules and attendance, parent inquiries, and changes
  • Coordinate with Youth Services Director to establish disciplinary action, parent meetings, and behavior management plans as needed
  • Report any incidents to the Office of Children and Family Services and the Director of Youth Services in a timely manner. Maintain accurate incident report information.

Expected Hours of Work: This is a part time position. Typical work days and times are Monday through Friday 6:45-9 am (Before School Program) 2:45-6 pm (After School Program) but exact times for this position may vary.


Direct Support Professional

We are seeking experienced part time direct support professionals to work with young adults with disabilities in a community class setting.

Essential Functions:

  • Support students with class assignments
  • Assist class instructor with assigned tasks
  • Help with transitions and skills of daily living

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: 5- 10 hours per week

Required Education and Experience: At least 2 years of experience working with young adults with disabilities in a community or school setting

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to support students with disabilities in a classroom setting
  • Knowledge of behavior management techniques
  • Help foster positive relationships between peers

Other Duties: Ensures participant safety and helps maintain Ensures client safety and maintaining a safe environment.

Sport Management Internship

Reports to Director of Wellness & Membership
Overview: We are looking for sharp, enthusiastic, driven, and athletic individuals who believe
that they can make a positive impact in the lives of people from all walks of life. These
individuals should have or be pursuing a Bachelor/Graduate degree in Exercise Science or
related field. They should be interested in becoming a professional in the fields of: Strength and
Conditioning, personal training, athletic training, or physical therapy with a strong desire to get
certification such as NSCA-CSCS, NSCA-CPT, ACSM, NASM-CPT, NATA-BOC,etc. Interns
will gain an understanding and experience in developing, implementing and evaluating programs
and services to meet the fitness/wellness needs of members including conducting classes,
assessments, one-on-one training sessions, program planning and implementation, and
participating in other Fitness/Wellness Program events and activities. Interns will also gain an
understanding of age-appropriate exercise selection, modifications and progressions.

Responsibilities and Activities:

  • The intent of the internship is to allow the student practical work experience in the sports
    management industry.
  • Interns will learn all the responsibilities of a Sports Management position including
    tournaments, special events and sports activities.
  • Perform fitness assessments for fitness/wellness program participants and personal
    training clients.
  • Lead group exercise classes and administer equipment training.
  • Create and organize program evaluations and feedback.
  • Design individual exercise programs and direct one-on-one training sessions.
  • Help plan and implement one major fitness/wellness program.

Clerical and administrative tasks:

  • Maintain necessary documentation to meet the requirements of the program
  • Learn the administrative details of a business, payroll, profit and loss reports and
    analysis, guest management, and inter-office communications.
  • Assist fitness/wellness staff with general office duties and generating reports.
  • Research fitness and health-related information for bulletin boards and displays.
  • Establish monthly goals and identify areas of growth and staff development
  • Assist with the process of charging and billing Fee-for-Service Personal Training
    clientèle.
  • Create and monitor personal training schedules.
  • Ensure proper communication with the maintenance department as needed.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in a college program.
  • Ability to complete a minimum of 12 hours per week for the 2021-2022 school year.
  • Can receive college credit through undergraduate, or graduate classes in sport science,
    support management, kinesiology, exercise physiology, exercise science, etc.
  • Must be interested in the field of Sports Performance (Strength & Conditioning) and/or
    Sports Medicine.
  • Must be able to bend, reach, and lift 40 lbs.
  • Perform basic physical requirements of this job such as frequent walking around and
    demonstrating and assisting with exercise movements; bending, stretching, lifting,
    pushing, pulling and squatting are movements performed daily.
  • Certified in First Aid/CPR for the duration of the internship term.
  • Must be comfortable working with older adults; strong written and verbal communication
    and interpersonal skills; ability to work well independently and in a group setting
  • Comfort both in working alone and collaboratively.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time whether indoors or outdoors; okay with exposure to heat, cold and other elements.
  • Comfort both in working alone and collaboratively.
